Teaching Green at Cyprus

Promoting environmental awareness through international cooperation

In the context of growing concerns about the future of our planet, the Teaching Green project aims to educate young people about the urgent issue of climate change. As part of this initiative, a working trip to Cyprus was organised, which included a two-day meeting in Nicosia with partners from various countries. The trip was marked by productive discussions, refining webinars, finalizing training materials and preparing for the upcoming final conferences.

Day 1: Joint discussions and development of online lectures

Upon arrival in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, the meeting began with partners from various countries joining forces to refine the web-based lessons created by the Teaching Green project. Participants shared their experiences and insights on teaching methodologies, engaging activities and effective communication strategies to address climate change in the classroom. Through intensive brainstorming, they identified the most compelling and practical methods for communicating a complex topic in a way that is accessible to pupils of different ages.

Day 2: Finalisation of training materials and preparations for the conference

The second day focused on finalizing educational materials that will serve as valuable resources for teachers and students. These materials included lessons, visual aids, and interactive exercises. In addition, preparations for the final conferences in the partner countries were underway. Sites were selected, a preliminary agenda was prepared and a strategy for disseminating the findings and results of the Teaching Green project was discussed.

Conclusion: Strengthening teachers' competences in the field of environmental education

The mission trip to Cyprus was an example of the power of collaboration and international partnerships in promoting climate change education. The dedication and expertise of the participants combined with the vibrant atmosphere of Nicosia fostered a successful meeting. By refining the online lessons, completing the training materials and preparing for the final conferences, the Teaching Green project took a significant step towards finalising all deliverables. These will begin appearing on our website this fall.
